Craving a More Spacious Life
Is it just me or are you craving a different kind of life?
A life where you read the newspaper while you sip your coffee.
A life where you walk the dog holding hands with your sweetheart.
A life where you sit on your porch drinking wine and giggling with your girlfriends.
A life where you go hiking with your kids and marvel at glory of the sunset.
For the past three years, I’ve been working towards creating more space in my days. <Some days more successfully than others.>
In Santa Barbara, I met some magical people who have become my chosen family and I got to know myself on a much deeper level. I participated in this program only six days after I’d left the practice of law.
When I described my typical day to one of the facilitators, she asked “What is your wall of busyness keeping out?” And, I’ve spent the past three years living into the answer.
And, I think the answer is more about what the wall of busyness has been keeping in. It’s been keeping me safe – like Rapunzel in the tower. It’s given me the freedom to honestly say, “I’m too busy to take that on” rather than even more honestly saying, “I don’t want to do that.” The wall of busyness allowed me to draw reactive boundaries instead of intentional boundaries.
So, now that I’ve solved the riddle of why I built the wall of busyness and the purpose that it has served for the past 15 years, the real question is whether I’m ready to give it up…
Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.
~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
And, the answer is that I’m going to try. In 2022, I’m striving for less instead of more.
✅ Less stress
✅ Less complexity
✅ Less saying “yes” to things I really don’t want to do
✅ Less clutter (physical, mental, and emotional)
